Help Filing Your Texas Unemployment Claim

Do you need to file an unemployment claim with the Texas Workforce Commission, but just do not know where to start? Here at Scott Gilmore Thompson, we are unemployment legal advocates and we know how vital it is to get claims filed as soon as possible. We can help you navigate this important task.

It is urgent that you file for your Texas unemployment benefits as soon as you become unemployed because your claim starts the week you complete the application. However, you may not apply until your last day of work. On their official website, The Texas Workforce Commission has made videos and tutorials available with the needed information for filing claims. Following is a step-by-step list of instructions on how to file your claim online.

Getting Started:

To file online you will need to visit the unemployment benefits section of the Texas Workforce website. https://www.twc.texas.gov/jobseekers/unemployment-benefits.

Learn About:

Under the subheading “learn more” you can select the second link “applying for unemployment benefits”. Then select “how to apply”.

How to Apply:

Under “how to apply” you will find a link that takes you to an unemployment benefits tutorial. This tutorial contains the instructions and web page screenshots you need to fill in, complete, submit, and confirm your unemployment benefits application. Applying over the internet is fast and easy. Navigating through this tutorial is simple, but you will need to read the instructions carefully. Red asterisks identify questions that are required to be answered. When your application is complete you will receive a confirmation number.

What you will need:

During your application process, you will be required to set up a user I.D. and password. There are also several things that you will need to have available when filling out your online application. They are as follows:

  • Your social security card number
  • Your last employer’s business name, address, and phone number
